It's pretty likely that this man has played on at least one of your favourite ever albums, but he was first known for his work as part of Dream Theater, has since played in possibly hundreds of bands, and has worked with artists ranging from Avenged Sevenfold to Neal Morse. Such a varied and colourful CV must demand vast knowledge about what drum sound fits perfectly where. As such, Tama have let Mike lose on his very own range of signature snares. This particular example is the 14-inch Melody Master.

This steel snare shapes a brick-hard attack and a solidly present sound that's guaranteed to punch through the mix. The 14 by 5.5-inch shell is made of 1mm thick steel that's been wrapped in a Hammered Flat Black finish and mounted with Tama Die-Cast tension hoops with a total of 8 tension rods. Unique to this very special range of signature snares is the three-way snare tension system that can switch the tension down from tight, to a little looser, to fully off, giving you flexible tonal range that can even shift mid-song.
